Paranoid personality, also known as delusional personality, is often characterized by extreme hypersensitivity, a tendency to hold grudges over insults and harms, rigid thoughts and behaviors, excessive suspicion, and a narrow mind.
People with this personality are prone to jealousy. They grow anxious and furious when others gain achievements or honors. They either pick fights to quarrel, make sarcastic remarks behind others’ backs, or openly complain about and accuse others.
Such individuals fail to maintain harmonious relationships at home and get along poorly with friends and colleagues outside. Others have no choice but to keep their distance from them. You may check if you have the following mental tendencies for reference:
First, they are conceited and self-important, overestimating their own abilities, and often daydream about getting rich overnight.
They attribute their failures to bad luck, seeing themselves as geniuses unfit for simple repetitive work. They firmly believe that their ideal career is to be a big boss making strategic layouts.
For instance, after watching entrepreneurial plots in TV dramas, Xiao Li equated himself with the drama’s protagonist. He rushed to start a business and fantasized about striking it rich.
Second, they habitually shift blame and responsibility for their failures onto others.
Take Old Wang as an example. He violated traffic rules and crashed into another vehicle, yet insisted he was blameless and claimed the other party failed to watch out. Even after traffic police arrived, investigated the scene and ruled him fully liable, Old Wang still refused to admit his mistake.
This mindset is extremely dangerous. Later, his wife found that Old Wang suffered from severe cognitive impairment and frequent mania episodes.
Once, Old Wang could not find his laptop at home. He suspected the laptop was hiding from him and swore to throw it away once he found it.
Sure enough, he eventually located the device. Overwhelmed by the joy of “finding it”, he paid no heed to the laptop’s practical value and tossed it straight into the trash bin. His wife thought he had lost his mind, yet Old Wang felt completely relieved.
Third, they are extremely suspicious.
If someone treats them to a meal, they assume it is a trap; if others offer sincere help, they suspect there is an ulterior motive behind it. They frequently suspect their spouses of infidelity, and even believe passers-by chatting and laughing on the street are mocking them.
Fourth, they cannot stand others’ success.
In study settings, they feel immense stress and lose sleep at night upon seeing classmates make progress. At work, they often misinterpret leaders’ remarks during meetings as targeting themselves.
Paranoid personality disorder is a relatively mild psychological condition. However, left unaddressed, it may evolve into severe mental health issues. Therefore, people ought to cultivate a sound personality, stay optimistic and independent, communicate more with others, and integrate better into society.
